Club Ride Leduc, AB. - The
weather was fantastic as we rode through Leduc, West to
Rollyview, then north to Beaumont.
We came back around through Nisku and ended back at
Cafe Eden in Leduc for some coffee and
great conversation. It was warm, and we had met up
with our newest member Gene Eckert of
Leduc. Gene rides a beauty of a super-scoot, the
Suzuki
Burgman 650. better yet, his trusty companion Brownie,
a sweatered pooch, sits on his
step-through, on a piece of carpet and
rides like an "Easy Rider" See our "Member
Gallery" for
photos.

Freedom, Italian style: Vespas are back in Canada ~ Duncan Hood
From the Summer 2005 issue of MoneySense magazine
It was a blazing hot day last summer when Morey Chaplick turned the corner onto lower
Jarvis Street in Toronto, hit his brakes, and saw an all-too-familiar sight. Traffic was backed
up for hundreds of metres while sweating drivers seethed in the shimmering heat, "their
faces like plastic masks, they were so mad." Chaplick just grinned, gunned his engine and
zipped up the bicycle lane a couple of blocks, before hanging a right and going on his way.
"I actually felt a bit guilty — but not that guilty," he recalls. "Just thinking about it brings a
smile to my face."

High gas prices propel a new 'moped madness'
Scooters and mopeds see a rise in sales - and cachet - thanks in part to a youth energy ethic.

ATLANTA – How it happened, Devin Biek still isn't exactly sure. Infatuation with an Italian
Vespa scooter led this resident of Elkhart, Ind., to an ad on eBay, a trip to Iowa, and a
triumphant return with a 1978 Rizzato Califfo moped that wouldn't start. After its carburetor
was de-gummed, the creature roared to life in a puff of blue exhaust.

Scooters shift to high gear
By PATRYCJA CHALUPCZYNSKA, SPECIAL TO THE EDMONTON SUN
Cheaper than a car and much easier on the gas budget, scooters are becoming more popular
in Edmonton. Which is good news for Dylan Liley, owner of Top Gear Scooters on Whyte
Avenue. "I think people need a transportation alternative. And there's been a lot of people
who wanted a scooter for a long time, but there was never a shop to buy one from here in
Edmonton," said Liley, who owns the store with childhood friend Wolf Hatheway. Liley
estimates there are about 600 scooters on Edmonton's streets today.

Vespa business scooting along - City dealership near top of national charts
By Myron Love - Winnipeg Free Press
WHEN McNaught Pontiac Buick GMC left
its long time downtown location on Portage Avenue
just west of Sherbrook for the Manitoba
Auto Mall three years ago, McNaught scion Brent
McNaught decided
to keep the old location open as a used car outlet -- under the
Brent
McNaught Automotive Centre moniker -- as well as a service
centre and bodyshop. "Business
has been good," McNaught said, "but we
felt that we weren't using our showroom to the best
advantage." McNaught has remedied
that deficiency by acquiring the Vespa scooter
franchise for Manitoba. On Thursday, March 30, he
held a grand opening to introduce his
new product line to Vespa and scooter enthusiasts.
Although McNaught officially became
a Vespa dealer as of Jan. 1 and he and his staff have
sold enough models to rank third in
sales in February and fifth in sales in March for Canada
(there are currently 30 Vespa dealers
across the country), it is only now that the snow has melted that
customers can actually drive
their Vespas.
