Live to Ride Brochure - Alberta Infrastructure 256.08KB

"Motorcycle safety goes nowhere unless

drivers play a big role. In a vehicle, a driver

can feel invincible—on a bike, a rider is

vulnerable.  Be aware of motorcyclists out on the

road and give them the space they need: "

Alberta Operators License Handbook 4558.74KB

"Riding a motorcycle is a high risk activity. This is

because motorcycles have the disadvantage of

being less stable, smaller and more vulnerable in a

crash than other vehicles on the road. New riders

are at the greatest risk of having a collision

because they are unfamiliar with the controls and

handling characteristics of motorcycles."

 Alberta Safety Council - Brochure 2005 100.36KB

"The Alberta Safety Council has trained thousands

of motorcycle riders in safe riding techniques

since 1974. We are the largest and most

established motorcycle training facility in Alberta.

Our motorcycle instructors are provincial

licensed and nationally certified by the Canada

Motorcycle Safety Website - Safe Operations Paper 76.50KB

"Motorcycles are less safe than cars and must be

operated with great caution. Because of their low

crash protection and high performance

capabilities, motorcycles are more likely to be

involved in a severe collision. Between 1997 and

2001 there was an average of 562 casualties in

our province each year involving motorcyclists.

This statistic is especially alarming since

Albertans typically only ride their motorcycles

about six months of the year."
